Half Empty ~ Almost Full

I was standing in The Tattered Cover, reading the back cover of Half Empty by David Rakoff, thinking that I must read this book because I’m a Half Full ~ no ~ make that an Almost Full sort of girl. But I'm open to opposing views, and his, apparenty, is side-splitting funny.

And then an Almost Full thing happened. There was a sudden loud commotion. I turned toward the noise - as did everyone – to see two families reunite right there, in the bookstore. They had planned their meeting inside the store – ‘SORRY WE’RE LATE!’ – and they had planned to shout their greetings and their ongoing conversation as though they were in a private home with the radio turned up. But their sheer happiness made the sheer volume altogether worthwhile.

I wondered if everyone who observed them felt as I did: a momentary concern turned to a momentary irritation which gave way to a lasting, feel-good sensation. I set down the book and I stole another glance at the super-happy-super-loud-friends. Glad I was right there, right then.
